How to synchronize media presets between the RIPs and the HP 1500 Latex Printer

HP-DianaPascual 7th of February 2018

Caldera and Onyx RIP drivers for the HP Latex 3000 printer series and the HP Latex 1500 printer come with several substrate profiles pre-installed on the printer.

HP offers the possibility of downloading and directly installing on the printer a specific substrate preset (containing the ICC profiles) through the HP IPS (Internal Print System), on the online substrate manager menu.

Another option is to access the same specific substrate presets at the HP Media Locator. There, you will be able to download the substrate presets (containing the ICC profiles) in OMES file format. After downloading the file, you should go to your HP IPS (V) and import the media preset.

Both possibilities lead to the same result.

“The HP Latex 3000 Printer Series are contone printers. Substrate presets are stored in the printer and RIP should retrieve the ICC profile from printer for applying it before sending jobs to print. Therefore, a synchronization process is required.”

Synchronize substrates with ONYX RIP

The Onyx RIP driver is able to synchronize these substrate presets from the printer. For retrieving them from the machine, go to Onyx RIP and click on the Configure Printer icon.

Then, go to Device tab, select the printer and click on the Features button.

The following window will appear, select Global Printer Options and click on the Configure button.

In the next window, click on the From Printer button.

Then you will see the list of custom substrate presets that exists on the printer. Select the substrates you want to import and click OK.

The selected substrate presets will be added to the Onyx RIP media manager library. You can now use these media profiles for creating your jobs from the RIP.

Synchronize substrates with Caldera RIP

The Caldera RIP driver is able to synchronize these substrate presets from the printer. For retrieving them from the machine, go to the EasyMedia module of Caldera RIP.

Select the printer from which you want to retrieve the presets, and click Next.

The list of substrates available on your printer is shown. For synchronizing the latest ones from the printer, click on the Import button.

And then click on Autosync for getting the substrate presets from the printer.

In the next window, click on Missing presets only for retrieving only the new substrate presets available on your HP Latex 3000 printer series and HP Latex 1500 printer.

All your custom media presets from the machine will be downloaded to the RIP and added to the end of the media list.
